Transition from Education Tax Refund to the Schoolkids Bonus
A reminder to all of our clients who diligently collected all their recepts to claim the Education Tax Refund for the 2010/11 tax year, that the government has changed this to the Schoolkids Bonus from 2011/12 tax year - no receipts are required or can be claimed.
As part of the transition to the new Schoolkids Bonus, a one-off lump-sum payment was made in June 2012 to families in place of the Education Tax Refund for the 2011/12 financial year. This payment replaced the refund you would usually have received from the ATO after lodging your tax return. If you were eligible, the one-off Education Tax Refund payment was automatically paid into your nominated bank account. You would have received up to $409 for each child in primary school and up to $818 for each child in secondary school.
If you didn’t get an Education Tax Refund payment in June and think that you may be eligible, or it wasn’t the amount you expected to get you will need to contact the Department of Human Services on 132 468.
